By Chuck Parsons with Gary P. Fitterer Charles Brown McKinney was a Texas Ranger with McNelly's Ranger Company A which restored law and order to the area of South Texas known as the Nueces Strip. McKinney was married to Paulina Hay, daughter of Silas and Lucinda English Hay of Carrizo Springs, Dimmit County Texas. C. B. McKinney was elected Sheriff of La Salle County Texas on February 3, 1883. McKinney was killed in the line of duty on December 26, 1886. This interesting book covers much of the history of La Salle, Dimmit, and Frio Counties in South Texas during the 1870's and 1880's. It includes extensive references and photos and is a must read for someone interested in the history of South Texas.
By Geroge Durham as told to Clyde Wantland, Foreward by Walter Prescott Webb A true adventure story of an extraordinary Texas Ranger, Captain Leander McNelly, who cleaned up the bandit-plagued Southwest Texas area between the Nueces River and the Rio Grande known as the Nueces Strip. The story is told by George Durham, the youngest man in the Ranger Forca and covers the years 1875 and 1876. The story includes accounts of the Ranger's encounters with the Legendary Dimmit County figure, King Fisher.
